Our Current NEWSLETTER

Thank you for your interest in Kingfisher Resort.

We are located forty two miles north of Vermilion Bay, Ontario on Hwy. 105, better known as the Red Lake Road. Mileage from International Falls, MN, is 165, about three hours drive time. Approximate driving times are eight hours from Rice Lake - twelve hours from Madison - thirteen hours from Milwaukee -fifteen hours from Chicago-nine hours from the twin cities-eighteen hours tram St. Louis.

Camp is located just a couple of minutes from the hamlet of Perrault Falls which consists of a couple of stores, a post office, liquor store and gas station. Just five minutes from camp there is a restaurant which serves good home cooked meals at reasonable prices. A half hour north of camp is the town of Ear Falls which offers a small shopping mall as well as other points of interest such as a museum and a golf course. There are also churches and medical facilities available. Vermilion Bay is forty minutes to the south. Dryden is about seventy minutes away.

Kingfisher Resort is a small, quiet camp owned and managed by ourselves and one experienced manager.  We have earned a reputation among our many repeat guests as people who have dedicated themselves to customer satisfaction, this is not just a phrase, but rather it is what directs our daily efforts. Over the years we are not satisfied to rest on our reputation, but rather we strive to improve our services and facilities so as to insure every guest that all of their expectations.

Camp consists of ten cottages which are situated among the cedar, pine and poplar trees and spacious, manicured lawns. Ail cottages are just a short distance from the water and only a couple hundred yards from the foot of beautiful Perrault Falls which offer a spectacular view and the rushing water is soothing to the soul as the sound enters the windows of your cottage. We have a large roofed deck at the waters edge where you can view the falls, read a good book, or just relax and watch the Bald Eagles and other native waterfowl. The deck also has gas grilles and tables for your use should you choose to prepare a meal out of your cottage. In the lodge we have tackle, clothing, bait, etc. We also have a library of books that you can enjoy on those rainy days.

LADIES ...PLEASE NOTE - If this is your first trip to a Canadian fishing camp, or if you have visited in the past and were not totally pleased with the accommodations your "significant other" selected, we at Kingfisher Resort boast not only excellent fishing but four star accommodations as well. Our cottages are more like homes than summer cabins. They are spacious, comfortable, fully equipped and, above all, spotlessly clean! You will not spend your cabin-time sitting in a straight-back kitchen chair; each cottage has living room sofas and chairs. You will not have to share bathroom facilities with other guests as each unit has its own complete bathroom. Be this your first trip or one more of many, we guarantee you will be very pleased with Kingfisher Resort.

Our cottages are large by industry standards. We have one, two, three and four bedroom cottages so we can comfortably accommodate groups or families from two to eight persons with each having their own bed. All cottages also have living rooms with comfortable furniture as well as sofa beds which can be used for that extra person. All cottages are fully modern, all electric as well as electric heat. All are completely furnished in every detail with full bathrooms, lots of hot water and flush toilets. We guarantee all of our units are cleaned and sanitized to the highest standards at all times! Our cottages have large kitchens with full-size electric appliances as well as spacious dining areas.

About Wabaskang Lake. We have attempted, as best as we can, in the limited space of a brochure, to detail the lake and the fishing you can expect while you are here. Every outfitter likes to think that they have the best! The truth is that nearly all of the lakes in the region have good to excellent fishing. The Ministry of Natural Resources, along with the cooperation of the outfitters and the visiting fishermen, have done an outstanding job of preserving the fisheries for the present fisherman as wail as for generations to come. Wabaskang is a lake that should satisfy almost any fisherperson, be they pro or novice. We have a variety and abundance of fish. Like most of the lakes in the area, Wabaskang has excellent Walleye and Northern populations, but unlike many other lakes, it also has great Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout and outstanding Jumbo Perch. The bottom line is this - we have a lot of fish - how large are they? Like any other lake they come in all sizes.

How many can you expect to catch? The single most deciding factor is going to be the weather. If we're experiencing "fishing" weather, you're halfway there! The second factor is your fishing gear, particularly for Walleyes-on our lake you want to be rigged light at all times! We can cover tackle in more detail later should you choose to fish with us. The third factor, and perhaps the most important, is our participation as an outfitter. We don't just point you to your boat and say "go get'em tiger'. Upon arrival, we spend time with each party, individually or collectively, going over the lake map, pointing out the most recent 'hot' spots, how to fish these spots, what kind of tackle and bait to use, etc. We, as outfitters, spend a great deal of time, effort and resources to attract guests to our camp. Our first obligation is to see to it that you get what you expect and deserve as outlined in our material. If we fulfill our role in every detail we can reasonably expect that should you return to Ontario for a future fishing trip you will more than likely want to return to
Kingfisher. Further, if you've had a great time, you will tell others that is our goal and our reward!

Kingfisher Resort and Wabaskang Lake are not just for 'hard core' fishermen/women. We are also a great experience for the entire family. Kids can catch lots of fish right off the docks. They can also swim as well as play yard games or go hiking by the Falls. The scenery on Wabaskang is spectacular. There are miles and miles of unspoiled shoreline to explore and it's not uncommon to see Moose, Bear and other critters in their natural habitat. The lake also offers countless beautiful spots for your daily shore lunch ....a must. If you're there in July and part of August you can take the family out Blueberry picking.

September is generally considered one of the best fishing months for all species. Fish tend to feed more in order to put on extra fat for the long winter. The 'average stringer' is definitely heavier at this time of the year and we will see more trophy fish caught. If you like Grouse hunting, this is the time to plan your trip. The season opens on the 15th of the month. We generally have lots of grouse and you can combine this with some great fall fishing.

Enough Already! When I get started I don't know when to stop! A trip to Ontario and Kingfisher Resort is something you have to experience yourself. Words and pictures are helpful, but just don't do it justice. If you think this is what you are looking for, just give us a call and check on available dates, etc. You may get our answering machine so leave a message -we check it daily and will get right back to you.

Sincerely,

Gerry Moran
